Nature of Position: The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is seeking a dynamic, creative, highly motivated professional to strengthen NEEF’s capacity to work with the formal school sector nationwide to infuse environmental content into core K-12 curricula, school operations and policy decisions. This position, Senior Director, Education Programs, offers an opportunity to play a leadership role in environmental education through creative alliances with key environmental education and K-12 education organizations; convening experts in the field; celebrating and advancing existing innovative school and classroom models; promoting new environmental learning strategies; encouraging youth involvement in solving local environmental problems; and using and the latest communication technologies to interact with policymakers, state and local school officials, school administrators, teachers and students.

Primary responsibilities will include: Creating a strategic plan and an integrated communication strategy for NEEF’s K-12 programs; initiating strategic alliances with organizations that will complement NEEF’s program goals; presenting NEEF’s education programs to key constituencies through conference presentations, webinars, print and on-line publications; identifying new approaches to environmental learning; leading and managing a national advisory committee of policymakers, environmental education and education experts; designing professional development opportunities for school administrators and teachers; managing the communication strategy for three websites; designing the strategic direction of program related grants and awards; developing program evaluation plans; managing program budgets; program fundraising and supervising staff (5), consultants and interns.

The ideal candidate will have: planning and managing complex programs experience; strategic planning skills; demonstrated leadership skills in national outreach strategies; experience with the environmental education and communication communities; proven track record in creating innovative education programs and public-private partnerships; experience in the latest web and internet communication strategies; knowledge of education issues and understanding of federal and state education policies desirable. Experience managing and supervising a team is essential. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills as well as a sense of humor are essential. Masters degree in related field and a minimum of seven years teaching or program management experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree, plus significant relevant experience may substitute.
