Job Description :

The Association of Public Television Stations seeks a Vice President of Government Relations to lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the Government Relations Department, including personnel, legislative activities and consultants. The person will be responsible for formulating and implementing legislative strategies in furtherance of the mission of public television. This person will supervise the drafting of testimony, position papers and proposed statutory and committee report language. Lobbying of Members of Congress and their staffs is required.

The Vice President, Government Relations, will supervise a team of four to six legislative advocacy professionals. He/she will coordinate with sister public broadcasting organizations. The person also will work closely with public television stations to coordinate and focus grassroots and grasstops advocacy. The position will report directly to the President and CEO.

The ideal candidate will have a track record in successful legislative strategy, talent in creating compelling written materials, and strong personal relationships with Members and staff in Congress. Experience with appropriations issues is required. Experience with communications and education issues is desirable. A premium exists on written and verbal communications skills and strong interpersonal relations skills.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and five to ten years of professional-level experience with the federal governmental legislative process.
