American Rivers seeks an experienced Senior Director for Government Relations. This person's primary responsibilities will include carrying out American Rivers’ legislative priorities and developing and implementing strategies to influence federal funding of programs that promote river restoration and protection.

The Senior Director will shape and implement American Rivers’ advocacy efforts and strategy to influence the Administration and Congress, secure federal funding to advance river restoration and water protection practices, and establish strong relationships with other conservation NGOs.

A minimum of seven to ten years experience with the federal legislative process, especially appropriations, on Capitol Hill, with a relevant agency, or within an advocacy organization is required. An advanced degree in a relevant field of study, such as political science, law, or environmental studies, or equivalent experience is required. Candidates must also possess demonstrated strategic and tactical political skills, experience managing and mentoring staff, superior written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work in coalitions and collaborations with other organizations. Political campaign experience is a plus.
