Sean McColl has a wide range of experience in training and the development of people which he calls upon while working with clients in his professional and leadership development consulting. From recruiting through the hiring, managing and coaching stages, he has been involved in the development of people and leading them as they progressed through their careers. Because a successful organization is built through inspiring, empowering and leading the people who will ultimately shape it, it is first necessary to be personally successful so that people want to follow you. Having successfully built and run a business as an owner, Sean understands the importance of leadership and knows the skills that a leader must possess and demonstrate.
Sean has insight and perspective garnered through both a corporate and entrepreneurial background. As co-owner of a marketing and promotions company, he led the sales and marketing for the company which grew fourfold in 7 years and was instrumental in the negotiation of successful sale of the company. Upon completion of the acquisition, Sean was asked to stay on with the new company, Boundless Network. He became the Managing Director of the Washington, DC office and then was eventually asked to assume the duties of Regional Director for the Mid-Atlantic. Previously he was the Vice President of PromoCorp from 2001 until its merger with Boundless Network in 2009. In this role he was responsible for driving the overall growth of the company, overseeing all aspects of sales and marketing functions related to the acquisition of new accounts and servicing of existing clients, as well as marketing and business development strategies for the company.
Sean has over 20 years of direct sales and marketing experience and has been involved in the development and execution of numerous sales plans, marketing campaigns and business development strategies. Prior to PromoCorp, Sean worked in the field of telecommunications for over 12 years. He served as a Product Manager for e.Spire Communications where he was responsible for the development, rollout, and management of a bundled local and long-distance telecommunications product. Before that he was with AT&T for five years and held a number of sales and marketing roles, including several assignments at AT&T’s global headquarters in New Jersey. He began his career in the wireless industry in a direct sales role before moving into sales management.
Sean’s approach to professional and personal development has been influenced by a diversity of experiences both within and outside of the corporate world. Creating and delivering corporate training and managing the professional development of people, as well as many years of volunteering with underprivileged children, have allowed him to study the ways people develop at different stages of their lives. Tutoring grade school youths and helping high school students apply to college and prepare for the life style change that accompanies it, honed his appreciation for the importance of helping people establish the right habits as building blocks for self improvement. It also firmly ingrained in him the value of working one-on-one with a mentor and what can be accomplished through such a relationship.
A firm believer in a work/life balance, Sean has applied that holistic approach to his own career and to his roles as husband and father. Drawing from his personal experiences, he works with his consulting clients to help them grow both as leaders and as people as they work towards achieving their individual goals.
Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics and Government from American University in Washington, DC, and a Master of Science Degree in Management from the University of Maryland, Graduate School of Management and Technology. In addition to serving on the Board of Advisors for the Washington Networking Group, he is a former member of the Board of Directors and past Vice-President of an association for the promotional products industry. He co-founded the “Technology HH”, a Tyson’s Corner based networking group for people working in sales, marketing and technical roles in the Northern, Virginia/Washington, DC/Maryland area.
