Meet The International Counselors - Briefing Series

In September 2004, the Washington Network Group launched a series of monthly business briefings titled "Meet the International Counselors". Our partner for these briefings has been the International Gateway of The Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. All briefings in the regular program have taken place in The Reagan Building.

Purpose: Each program features an overseas market and introduces attendees to the investment and business opportunities in that particular country. Presentations and prepared collateral materials highlight tangible advice and specific recommendations that companies may use to pursue business opportunities in the country market presented.

Audience: The briefing series is promoted to the WNG membership, the International Gateway and International Trade Center constituencies, and is broadly advertised to the business and international trade communities in the greater Washington DC region. In addition, we often include supporting organizations such as the relevant bilateral trade associations or chambers of commerce, and they invite their members to attend these events.

Format: Moderated panel discussions feature embassy counselors, at the minister level, from the commercial, trade, and economic sections. A counterpart from a U.S. trade agency - U.S. Commercial Service or Commerce Department - also presents. In addition, we often include a bilateral business association representative on our panels, if available. The briefings are moderated by Bill Stokes (WNG chairman). Following presentations and Q&A, we continue with a networking reception (beer and wine, hors d'oeuvres) in the International Gateway.

Timing: This event series commenced in September 2004 and continued through 2006. Our 90-minute briefings included presentation and Q&A, and were followed by a networking reception.

Cost: Registration was $25-$40 per person depending upon WNG membership status and affiliation with supporting organizations (WNG Members receive the discounted rate).

The WNG program committee is open to suggestions on possible overseas markets and potential speakers.
