Latin Intelligence Corporation (LIC), a US-owned consultancy, delivers security vulnerability assessments, intelligence, research, and analytical products that provide verifiable, dependable "ground truth" in Latin America.

LIC has worked with security and intelligence agencies of the US government and with companies such as: PETROBRAS; PDVSA; CVRD; COSIPA; PEMEX; Loral Skynet; ECOPETROL, EMBRATEL; PetroEcuador, Reality Mobile; CODELCO; USINIMAS, Repsol/YPF; and, iJET International.

Maria Velez de Berliner, President of LIC, has been a consultant to US government agencies on the threats created by transnational criminal organizations that operate in Latin America.  She has consulted to private industry on political and economic risks in the region and on international business development.

She lectures in the US and internationally on security threats in Latin America and is interviewed and quoted frequently on:  energy, critical infrastructure, agribusiness, and telecommunications security issues; the ANDEAN FTA; NAFTA; CAFTA-DR; MERCOSUR; IBSA (India, Brazil and South Africa); China's and India's expansion in Latin America; the triad of Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran; and on Venezuela's economic and political influence in Latin America.

She is frequently sought after as a Latin America subject matter expert by publications such as:  The Harvard Business Review Brasil; The Harvard Business Review Latin America; The Latin America Advisor;  Satellite News; Via Satellite; Bloomberg Reporte Financiero; Bloomberg News; Latin Business Chronicle; International Investor; The Miami Herald; The Houston Chronicle; TradeNumbers Magazines; Al Dia (Philadelphia); Your Money (Lima); El Nuevo Dia (Puerto Rico), Location International (London); and, Transnational Organized Crime (London).

She is a US citizen and a Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Lake Forest College and has a Master's degree with Honors in International Relations, with specialization in international security, from the University of Pittsburgh.  She was a Presidential Management Intern.

In 2002, the Governor of Pennsylvania named Ms. Velez de Berliner one of Pennsylvania's Best 50 Women in Business. She serves on the Board of Advisors of the Center for Latin American Studies of the University of Pittsburgh, on the Board of Directors of the Hopewell Fund, in Wheeling, West Virginia, and on the Leadership Council of the American Small Business Coalition - ASBC, in Washington, D.C.  She also serves as Chair of the ASBC's Global Initiative.
